mercury

Mercury is just a little larger than the moon. It is a very bare planet. it is a rocky planet . It has a lot of craters on it. The largest crater is 643 kilometers and is the largest crater in the solar system. On mercury one year is a day and a half.

venus

Venus is the brightest planet in the solar system. it is about the same size as earth. it also has a lot of craters and 90% of them are volcanic. the temperature is about 464 degrees celsius. venus is covered with clouds of carbon dioxide.

earth

earth is the only planet that isn't named from a roman or Greek mythology name . it was not until the twentieth century that we had maps of the whole earth. the earth is split into a bunch of different layers. they are -the crust
-the upper mantle
-the transition region
-the lower mantle
-the d'' layer
-the outer core
-and the inner core
the earth is the most dens of the planets. 71% of the earths surface is water.

pluto

Pluto is a small rocky planet that is at the very edge of the solar system. The planet is so far out it takes light from the sun about 5 and one half hours to reach Pluto in contrast to the 8 minutes it takes to reach Earth. Pluto is so cold that nitrogen and oxygen become frozen solid.Pluto has a moon its about half the size of the planet. The smaller circle is Pluto's moon. Pluto is a dwarf planet. the moon is called Charon.

uranus

Uranus is an icy planet. It is a smaller version of jupiter. It has small dull ring around it. It also has a bunch of small moons. Uranus takes 84 years to orbit the sun. It orbits on its side so the seasons last about 20 years each. Methane gas is why the planet is a faint blue.

the sun

The sun is the biggest object in our solar system. some say that the sun is a big star and it is but there are many more smaller star than bigger stars. The Greeks called it Helios and the romans called it Sol. The sun is 70% hydrogen and 28% helium everything is less than 2% . the sun converts hydrogen to helium to its core.the surface of the sun is called the photosphere.

neptune

Neptune is one of the solar system's gas giants. Gas giants are mostly hydrogen, helium, and methane gases. The methane gas on Neptune gives the planet its blue color. Neptune has a set of very faint rings. you would weigh more on Neptune than on earth.

saturn

Saturn is the next biggest planet in the solar system. Saturn is a giant ball of gas. Saturn is famous for its rings. Saturn is 886 million miles from the Sun. Parts of the planet rotate at different speeds. Saturn has a massive magnetic field.

jupiter

jupiter is a big ball of dense hydrogen, helium, water, nitrogen and other gases. The Great Red Spot can be seen on Jupiter so can the four moons four moons: Io is the smallest, Europa, Callisto and Ganymede. The planet used to have 39 moons. The planet contains 71% of the matter in the solar system. All of its gravity pulls every object that goes past it toward it.

mars

mars has the largest canyon in the solar system.if it were on earth it go from Los Angeles to Chicago. whenever the planet has dust storms they can last for months at a time. about every two years the earth and mars come close together. mars has two moons they are Diemos and Phobos. it would take about 6 months for a space craft to get to mars but the crew would have to wait a year and a half to come home again.

earth

earth is the only planet that isn't named from a roman or Greek mythology name . it was not until the twentieth century that we had maps of the whole earth. the earth is split into a bunch of different layers. they are -the crust
